Latest from Lantsman - March 27, 2026

Over the last two weeks, we've had a pile of bad numbers that illustrate just how difficult life is becoming under Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Eighty-three thousand jobs gone in a month. A trade deficit far worse than expected and an almost $80 billion hole in the budget with no bottom in sight. Food inflation at record highs, and the only shrinking economy in the G7. The list goes on.

And while the economy contracts, our streets aren’t safe. Under Liberal laws, violent repeat offenders walk free on easy bail while Canadians who defend their families and their homes end up on the wrong side of the law. This week in Parliament, the Liberals even voted down common-sense laws to lock up violent criminals, keep sex offenders in jail, and fix Canada's broken bail and parole systems.

They also voted to send Bill C-9 to the Senate, making it one step closer to becoming law. This is a dangerous threat to Canadian freedom and civil liberties. Removing Criminal Code protections on faith doesn’t make a single Canadian any safer. It just makes the government more powerful.

Whether on the economy, crime, freedom, or any other issue -- rest assured I will always be a loud voice standing up for you and Canadians across the country.

Yours sincerely,

Melissa Lantsman

Working for You

Joined the North Thornhill Woods Ratepayers Association alongside Steven Del Duca, Chris Ainsworth, and Laura Smith for an important conversation about public safety and the issues that matter most to the community.

Thank you to everyone who came out and shared their concerns and ideas. Keeping our communities safe is a shared responsibility, and it’s an honour to serve you in Thornhill while working closely with our local partners to ensure it remains a safe, strong place to live and work.

Thanks to Jordan Kalpin and the entire board for your commitment over the years to Thornhill.

Visited friends at Bais Yaakov Thornhill for their Canada Day Fair. So cool to see your awesome projects as you learn all about our great country 🍁🍁

Thanks to Raquel Gould and the staff for the warm welcome!

Great to spend some time with friends from Alberta in support of our colleagues across the country. We talked about the best place on earth: Canada! We also talked about the work Conservatives are doing in Ottawa to lower taxes, rein in government spending, improve affordability, and drive economic growth.

Nothing says Alberta like a good ol’ Bull Sale 🐮 Unfortunately, I was outbid by MP John Barlow - he had home field advantage 😉

Thanks to Rob & Marci Matthews at Highland Stock Farm for welcoming us Easterners to your ranch!

Postcard From Washington

I recently spent a couple days in Washington with the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group. We met face-to-face with Senators and House members to make Canada’s case. I also got to hear from our business community while connecting with some old friends.

Trade, softwood lumber, border security, energy, and defence were on the agenda. Canadian jobs and industries don’t defend themselves and we should all talk to everyone, everywhere, always.

And you might have heard that Pierre was in the U.S. too -- fighting for 🇨🇦 jobs and tariff-free trade on the world’s biggest podcast!

If you haven't yet listened to his interview on the Joe Rogan Experience, you won't want to miss it.

Bill C-9

Ignoring hundreds of thousands of Canadians and faith leaders from every background, the Liberals and Bloc pushed Bill C-9 through the House of Commons anyway.

Removing Criminal Code protections on faith doesn’t make a single Canadian any safer. It just makes the government more powerful.

Enforce the laws we have. Start there.

Flashback: I spoke a few weeks ago in the House of Commons about the destructive, not constructive, effects that C-9 will have on our faith communities.

Have a watch and be sure to share so everybody can know about this terrible bill.

Standing up for Canada in Ottawa

Nobody thinks the Immigration Minister is good at her job — not even her own colleagues.

Why is she still in cabinet?

She gets a chance to answer, but always gets benched.

Their next answer is the deflect her embarrassing performance.

Every time.

Walking into a room full of people who love Jerusalem, who show up, means more than I can easily say.

The Jewish people know what it is to look around and find empty chairs where allies should have been. This room was the opposite of that.

You are the shield around the flame.
On behalf of my community in Thornhill and beyond — thank you.

Speaking at the Conservative Women in Politics Panel alongside Kenzie Potter and Kate Harrison.

It was an honour to engage in this thoughtful discussion and meaningful connection with some of the leading voices shaping the Conservative movement today.

100,000 jobs lost in a month. Youth unemployment at 14%. But all we get is the same Liberal rhetoric and the same ideas that caused this.

Canadians aren’t working because Liberal policies aren’t working.

It was a pleasure speaking on the panel at Carleton University’s 2026 Riddell Reception alongside fellow elected officials. Grateful for the opportunity to share the behind-the-scenes of public office and my journey to becoming an MP.

Always great to connect with the next generation of leaders 🎓💪

Young people cannot afford a home in this country. And it’s not their own doing - they aren’t the ones failing. The Government is failing them on every single promise they make.

Why won’t the Government listen to Conservatives and lower development charges, cut the read tape, and lower the cost of homes - for everyone - so that young people will one day be able to afford a home.

Lantsman in the News

After 10 years of the same Ministers sitting in the same chairs, doing the same things - on food inflation, unemployment, immigration, and crime - Canadians are worse off. More on this plus Canada-America relations, C-9, and the Conservative plan in my interview with Brad Smith 🎧
